This performance lecture unfolds as a sound-only “verbal cinema” where three voices reconstruct and reimagine a visual object withheld from view. One performer reads from a 1920’s shooting script, it’s DAY numbers, SHOT labels and camera directions forming a ghostly architecture of a film that has vanished, surviving only through its textual remains. A second voice delivers a contemporary essay that reflects on landscape, authorship and the instability of the archive. Between them, the Director’s voice offers spoken descriptions of the contemporary film’s images and actions, translating its visual world into language. Accompanied by a reworked version of the original soundtrack, the work stages a live negotiation between past and present, fiction and research, image and sound. Across five spatial zones, quiet tactile gestures anchor the performance, allowing the audience to inhabit a cinema built from voice, correspondence and the sonic trace of a film now only present through memory and score.
